online counselling

Volunteer work

As I am a counsellor & coach next to my marketing work, I enjoy helping out the online counselling community as well as I can.

On the 21st of June I helped out at the UKCP conference on Psychotherapy and Technology in London. I firmly believe that online counselling is the future for several reasons:

  • It is a great solution for people in remote areas.
  • Busy people can now plan when they have therapy.
  • Young people live online and will seek for therapy online.

For a lot of counsellors working online is still very new. That’s where these conferences come in about getting the word out. To learn what it means to work online. The training it takes and what modalities to use online when using video/audio. This conference had a lot of different speakers, workshops and a program for people following online. My job was to manage the online chat room. It means helping people get their questions replied to from speakers in the room, helping them with small technical problems and just be a link between online and the venue.

It ties in with what I do perfectly. To help people get started with their online marketing. Because deciding to work online is just the first step. When you have made that decision you have to set up your practice. Just like you would if you work F2F. You don’t have to hire an office now. You just hire web space, set up your website, your social media pages and you are ready to go! You can easily work from home as long as you have a room where you can be alone while you are working.
